The word “medicine”  occurs in Proverbs 17:22; Jeremiah 30:13, 46:11; and Ezekiel 47:12.  Root words are Gehah  (a cure); Gahah  (to remove or heal); Teruwthah  (a remedy); Rephuah  (heal).  The words mean a complete cure or restoration, to heal completely. 
 
The word “physician”  is used five times in the Bible.  The Hebrew root word is Rapha  or Raphan  meaning to stitch, restore, make whole, heal thoroughly.  Greek: means to cure or make whole.  As the god of this world, Satan has introduced into medicine a group of chemicals and drugs spelled relief, relievers, tranquilizers, uppers, downers, etc.  These are both prescribed and are on the shelf.  The assumption is that they are safe to use or they would not be available.  This is not necessarily true. 
 
Such drugs and chemicals in the Bible are associated with sorcery (Greek: Pharmakia)  medication: Pharmacy:  means magic, witchcraft, a drug, a spell giving potion, a druggist: pharmacist;  magician, sorcerer, poisoner.  The uses of chemicals by sorcerers in the Bible made it easy for the user to be invaded by evil spirits.  Scriptures on sorcery: Acts 8:9; Revelation 9:21; 21:8; 22:15; 18:23. 
 
In the light of these facts the question arises: “What chemicals or drugs can a Christian take without affecting his spiritual sensitivity and desire to serve the Lord?” 
 
Scripture declares that real medicines heal or cure.  Our problem arose when Satan caused worldly scientists, researchers and the medical profession to endorse “reliever drugs.”   These have no curative value but only serve to deepen the plight of the victim.  Particularly dangerous are the mind altering drugs and chemicals.  “Righteous”  church members may condemn alcohol as a “reliever” yet in their purses she has Valium or Librium as a reliever for herself.
 
Behind the scenes, Satan’s demons manipulate and interfere to bring about aches, pains, agony, diseases, etc., which afflict the minds, wills and emotions of their victims.  “Reliever”  drugs do not cure but only mask the symptoms. 
 
Many modern pain relievers are so powerful that they are quite capable of veiling the mind.  This can set up barriers between the Holy Spirit and the person’s will or desire to seek the Lord.  This produces tension, worry and anxiety, necessitating an even stronger mind separator, i.e., tranquilizers.  These can separate a person’s mind from reality and (when prescribed by a reputable doctor, psychologist, or specialist) can further alienate the uninformed believer from God (Isaiah5:13,14).  Viewed in this way, many strong pain killers, tranquilizers and mind altering drugs constitute instant witchcraft, regardless of who prescribes or advises taking them.  In a sense a believer taking some of these while crying out to God for healing, would be like a man begging to extinguish a fire while he pours gasoline on it. 
 
Mind-boggling drugs produce two complications for a believer.  First, it may well constitute sorcery or witchcraft–seeking help from man, the flesh and the demonic.  In that case, he would come under a curse from God because of occult involvement.  It could also paralyze or weaken built-in defenses against the demonic.  This would open the way for the entrance of evil spirits just as does hypnosis, transcendental meditation or yoga. 
 
Is all medicine bad?  No, for there are curative and healing arts which do not alter the mind or attitudes toward God.  These are what the Scripture calls medicine.  Certainly mind altering drugs are in the caution area for believers. 
 
Christians are obligated to learn from their physician or other knowledgeable person what function and action is produced by any so-called medication which is prescribed.  This will allow a choice and prayer to decide about using the substance.  The Bible definition of “physician”  is one who restores (by stitching) or makes whole.  When considering the drug world it becomes obvious that Satan has used it to fashion a clever pit.  Many mental institutions routinely give most inmates tranquilizers daily.  Some schools daily dose hyperactive children to make them more controllable. 
 
Very few follow scriptural admonitions to do the work of Jesus in deliverance, but chemical controllers are administered instead.  Evil spirits of Nervousness, Confusion, Mind Control, etc., need to be thrown out in Jesus name.  Obedience to the full gospel will bring curative, rather than a covering, action. 
 
Because Satan is the god of this world (II Cor 4:4) his philosophy and definitions are almost universally accepted, even by the Christian community.  There is widespread ignorance of God’s warnings and the instructions in the Word of God (Hosea 4:6). 
 
Truly the devil’s “tongue”  walks through the earth (Psalm 73:9).  His control of the mental institutions, hospitals and their policies is covert and cleverly hidden.   Inmates daily dosed with chemicals are separated from reality, mental awareness and any genuine help. 
 
Even the mildest pain killers (aspirin)  or tranquilizers (promethazine)  desensitizes the mind somewhat and may dull sensitivity to the leadership of the Holy Spirit.  Believers must realize that chemical changes can definitely affect areas of spiritual communication.  The extent of this is governed by the strength and effects of the chemical substances and also upon physical and mental vulnerability and susceptibility of the individual.
 
When God deals with a person by permitting some type of buffeting, drugs may mask symptoms, thus delaying the showdown called for by the Lord.  We routinely advise persons to consider prayerfully leaving off all drugs for at least a day before coming for deliverance prayer.  Strong drugs surround and reinforce demons, hindering their being forced to manifest and leave. 
 
It must be emphasized that, although we are quite sure that many of these afflictions are demonically rooted.  Although we continue to learn we still lack many keys to dislodge all the intruders.  The progress made thus far is indeed encouraging, but we look to the Lord for more breakthroughs in the future.

“I swear by Apollo the physician and Aesculapius and all the gods and goddesses, that according to my ability and judgement I will keep this oath and this stipulation to reckon him who taught me this art equally dear to me as my parents; to share my substance with him and relieve his necessities if required; to look upon his offspring in the same footing as my own brothers and to teach them this art if they shall wish to learn it, without fee or stipulation; and that by precept, lecture, and every other mode of instruction I will impart a knowledge of the art to my own sons and those of my teachers and to disciples bound by a stipulation and oath according to the law of medicine but to none others. 
 
“I will follow that system of regimen which, according to my ability and judgement, I consider for the benefit of my patients, and abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous.  I will give no deadly medicine to any one if asked, nor suggest any such counsel; and in like manner I will not give to a woman a pessary to produce abortion.  With purity and with holiness I will pass my life and practice my art.
 
“I will not cut persons laboring under the stone but will leave this to be done by men who are practitioners of this work.  Into whatever houses I enter, I will go into them for the benefit of the sick and will abstain from every voluntary act of mischief and corruption, and further, from the seduction of females or males, of freemen and slaves.
 
“Whatever, in connection with my professional practice, or not in connection with it, I see or hear, in the life of men, which ought not to be spoken of abroad, I will not divulge as reckoning that all such should be kept secret. 
 
“While I continue to keep this oath inviolate, may it be granted to me to enjoy life and the practice of the art, respected by all men, in all times, but should I repass and violate this oath, may the reverse be my lot.” 
 
The word Apollyon  (Rev 9:11) comes from the same root as Apollo.  He is the god of destruction, medicine, archery, prophecy, music, poetry and the highest type of masculine beauty. 
 
Aesculapius  is the god of medicine, the son of Apollo by a demon nymph.  “All gods and goddesses”; the caduceus  is the staff of Mercury (twined by two serpents)  god of commerce, messenger of the gods, cleverness, lying, thievery, eloquence, travel, etc. 
 
Satan plans the sickness, then programs the symptoms which are treated by sincere and duty-bound doctors.  Because of this a believer should move to break any evil soul ties with satanic medication and pray much about use of such things.  Check the Physicians Desk Register (PDR) listing all current prescription drugs and side effects, often similar to the symptoms being treated!  4

SCHIZOPHRENIA:  Outstanding, usually well behaved students sometimes undergo radical changes.  School grades plummet and they become confused, restless, anxious, often developing bizarre speech and actions.  This reaction can follow an illness or an emotional upheaval and might last only a few days or weeks.  However, sometimes recovery is slow, if at all. At the onset deterioration is so slow it is often overlooked.
 
The schizoid becomes moody, withdrawn and completely preoccupied with his own fantasy world.  Over activity, distractibility, vasomotor disturbances and inability to make or maintain meaningful relationships with others figure prominently in schizophrenia. 
 
The Bible calls this double mindedness (James 1:8).  Characteristics in affected children include: wanton destructiveness, messy table manners, nonexistent toilet training, tantrums and inability to relate to other people.  For more on schizophrenia: see Pigs in the Parlor,  by Frank Hammond. 
 
LATOURETTE’S SYNDROME:  The compulsion to scream obscenities is known as the Gilles La Tourette syndrome.  It was named after a French physician who first described the symptoms a hundred years ago.  The medical description for it is coprolalia.  The afflicted person may be thought to be very vulgar, immoral, drunk or psychotic.  Psychiatric and medical treatment brings little or no relief. 
 
This ailment usually begins in childhood with uncontrollable twitching, especially the facial muscles.  Later, peculiar sounds such as the hissing of a snake, the barking of a dog or blood curdling shrieks will begin.  When the avalanche of foul words occurs it is impossible to suppress it.  Emotional upsets can trigger an attack.
 
HUNTINGTON’S CHOREA:  Huntington’s Chorea is similar to St. Vitus dance in children, however it gets progressively worse.  It usually appears between the ages of 35 and 50.  Slight symptoms begin which gradually increase in intensity and severity.
 
Jerky movements involve the shoulder and body.  The legs are affected, causing a shuffle-like gait.  Speech difficulties are marked by hesitation, followed by an explosive release of words. 
 
Twitching ceases while sleeping but resumes when the patient awakes.  There is a steadily increasing mental deterioration and swallowing and eating can become difficult.  There is no known cure although some newer medications have been used to modify symptoms temporarily. 2
 
Acupuncture:  A recent report on experiments by anesthesiologists found that treatment by acupuncture brought relief to only one-third of the patients suffering chronic pain, the same level of success obtained by using placebos.  The locations of the placement needles had no effect on the outcome, whether placed on the Chinese “meridians”  or at randomly chosen spots.  These treatments gave such disappointing results as to be considered a waste of time.
 
Acupuncture comes from two Latin words meaning needle puncture and is reported in use in China as early as 2600 B.C.  There were similar witchcraft treatments used in a Brazilian tribe, the African Bantus, some Arabs and among the Eskimos. 
 
The Chinese organized the practice into a definite program for healing.  The basis for the entire treatment is rooted in witchcraft and the occult.  Without any genuine scientific evidence to support its claims, it has gained wide acceptance in the United States.  Accupressure  is a dangerous spin-off using pressure points and massage but is still based on the occult theories of acupuncture. 
 
Those acquainted with the spiritual dangers inherent in occult witchcraft practices recognize that when acupuncture works it is probably based on hypnotism and demonism.  Always any supposed healing or relief obtained in the devil’s market costs a price greater than the “help”  received through psychic or metaphysical healing (such as acupuncture, spiritualism or Christian Science). 
 
More and more investigators announce the same conclusion, that this is merely another application of waking hypnosis.  Rooted in Taoism (a demonic religion) it is not surprising that acupuncture would be based on teachings advocating pantheism, reincarnation and  astrology.  All of these are denied and condemned in the Bible. In other words, this is occult supernaturalism and a way to open oneself to occult subjection and attack by evil spirits.
