Filed Under PASTOR WORLEY’S WRITINGS (EXCERPTS), #10 CHILDREN AND DELIVERANCE

Some people say that children do not need deliverance. I could not disagree more. Parents have a solemn responsibility to provide protection for their offspring concerning spiritual warfare. So many curses, legal holds, and other legal grounds can be inherited through the ignorance, curiosity, and/or willful disobedience of the parent. In addition, our society provides a climate for demon infestation.

Once one is alerted to the dangers of passing on weaknesses, infirmities and other unpleasant things to siblings, he should begin breaking curses, destroying legal holds and grounds and binding any inherited spirits. This is in preparation for casting them out. The occult demons are tremendously powerful and tenacious, often staying in families for centuries. People afflicted with them are highly susceptible to psychic phenomena and influence.

We have seen children (from babies to teens) receive significant deliverance in the church and at home. Parents can minister some of this to younger ones while the child is sleeping. There need be no fear created in the child about deliverance. They will usually be able to handle the idea of casting out evil spirits easier than many adults.

When a child is brought to us for prayer, we ask that one or both parents accompany them, preferably the father, since he has the most spiritual authority. Often I will talk briefly with the child, allaying any fears, with love for him.

Usually I ask if he sometimes does or says things he does not really want to do, things that get him into trouble. After an affirmative answer, I will mention that often ugly things called spirits get into a boy or girl and cause this sort of thing. I talk with the child about asking the Lord Jesus to come into his heart (Revelation 3:20) if he has not already done so.

Next I ask if he would like for those things to come out of him if they are there. Children seldom want problem-causing things and usually readily consent to prayer. I pray for him, quietly taking authority over the spirits and commanding them to manifest and leave. If they are stubborn and the father is present, I will have him take authority and guide him in what to pray. In practically every case this combined assault will rout the demons.

If parents wait until the child is grown up before attempting deliverance, they will discover the enemy has wasted no time and has burrowed in deeply, often scarring body and mind. They will work tirelessly to put a child in bondage, drag him out into the world and enslave him with many sinful habits. An ounce of prevention here is certainly worth the proverbial pound of cure.

In our church, children, even very young ones, take deliverance in stride and are not disturbed by even the most violent manifestations. They are calm and often pitch in and help, not upset by anything the demons say or do. If a child is visiting our services and is unfamiliar with deliverance, he may become upset, especially when it sounds as if someone is screaming in pain. The remedy is quite simple. We find a child his age from the church and have them come over and explain what is happening.

They will tell the visitor that it is the name of Jesus, the blood of Jesus and the Word of God used by the workers that is causing the outcries. The person is not in pain, but rather the evil spirits inside who have caused much trouble and resist being thrown out. Children have a strong sense of right and wrong and when they know that the “bad guys” are really being whipped and their victim will be better afterward, they lose their fear. Often the youngster from the church will lead the visitor up close so he can hear and see what is taking place.

The children in our services are walking proof that even deliverance with all sorts of outlandish manifestations will not damage young ones. They have an experiential understanding and appreciation for the protection of the name and blood of Jesus Christ often lacking in older folk.

We have discovered in deliverance work that many believers are restricted or bound by demons from fully expressing or releasing outwardly the unconditional or “agape” love that abides in their regenerated spirit. Through accepting and agreeing with thoughts and attitudes of the flesh, many have opened doors for unclean spirits who reinforce and establish restrictions of the expression of unconditional Christ-love.

At first, we treated Conditional Love as one spirit, but now understand it to be network or conglomerate of spirits working together to bind the victim to conditional love. I Corinthians 13 gives clues to the individual spirits and their specific hindering work in a believer. It is interesting to note in I Corinthians 13:1, 2 that a “baptized in the Spirit” believer is relative ineffective in Christian service until conditional love has been dealt with. This is yet another confirmation of the correct scriptural order in Mark 16 of casting out demons first before speaking in tongues and moving into gifts.

The key to the weapons in I Corinthians 13 is to identify simply the antonyms for the various features and characteristics that are listed (a dictionary and thesaurus would be helpful). Next, call them out in Jesus’ name as unclean spirits.

An important prerequisite to deliverance in this area is the total renunciation of all bitterness, resentment and unforgiveness toward others by the believer (see Conquering the Hosts of Hell, p 34). For additional categorical identification of spirits, consult a thesaurus. (See Demolishing the Hosts of Hell, p. 51.)

Here is a sample of how to identify unclean spirits that comprise “conditional love” from I Corinthians 13.

VERSE 4

Long-suffering: false generosity, duty, works, legalism, temper, impatience, frustration.

Kindness: unkindness, harsh, crude, inconsiderate, discourteous, unmannerly, vulgarity

Envieth not: envy, grudging, rivalry, begrudging, jealousy, covetousness

Vaunteth not itself: boasting, brag, self-flattery, exaggeration, gloat, swagger

Not puffed up: pride, egotist, self-importance, conceit, vanity, arrogance

VERSE 5

Does not behave itself unseemly: crude, coarse, indecent, gross, repulsive, ugly, ungraceful

Not easily provoked: annoy, antagonize, irritate, torture, dissatisfaction, torment, sarcasm, bother

Thinketh no evil: suspicion, judging, critic

VERSE 6

Rejoiceth in truth: rejoice in iniquity, gloat, revenge, self-satisfaction, vengeance

VERSE 7

Bears all things: intolerance, can’t cope, give up

Believes all things: unbelief, doubt, suspicion

Hopeth all things: hopelessness, despair, discouragement

Endureth all things: quitter, faithlessness, cowardice

VERSE 8

Never faileth: failure, uselessness, spiritual poverty

LOVE’S CONFESSION

I am the love of God, I endure long and am patient and kind.

I am never envious nor do I boil over with jealousy.

I am never boastful or vainglorious, nor do I display myself haughtily.

I am not conceited, arrogant or inflated with pride.

I am not rude, neither do I act unbecomingly.

I do not insist on my own rights or on having my own way.

I do not take account of any evil done to me nor do I pay any attention to a suffered wrong.

I do not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoice when right and truth prevail.

I bear up under anything and everything which comes.

I am ready to believe the best of every person.

My hopes remain fadeless under all circumstances.

I endure everything without weakening and never fail.

Filed Under PASTOR WORLEY’S WRITINGS (EXCERPTS), #10 CHILDREN AND DELIVERANCE

According to the dictionary, a fairy is a supernatural being of folklore, often represented as a tiny person with magical powers. They are also sometimes defined as a diminutive spirit (a disembodied spirit) dwelling in close relationship with man; a tiny, mischievous and protective creature in a household associated with the hearth. The word comes from the Latin root “Fata”, goddess of fate.

A tale is defined as a lie, falsehood, or fable. A fairy tale is a fanciful story or explanation about supernatural beings (magicians, dragons and fairies); a fictitious story, often with animal characters, designed to teach a lesson; a short story about legendary persons and exploits; a falsehood meaning narration or account.

Scripture warns us to have nothing to do with fables, enchantments, charmers or such like (Exodus 7:11, 22; 8:7, 18: II Kings 21:6; Isaiah 47:9-12; Deuteronomy 18:9-13; Jeremiah 27:9-10; Ecclesiastes 10:11; I Timothy 1:4; 4:7; II Timothy 4:4; Titus 1:14 (fables turn one from truth); II Peter 1:16 declares importance of truth); Romans 1:25).

According to Strong’s Concordance fable means a tuition, doing for money, charging for instruction in a lie. It also can mean a tale that is a lie or falsehood. Strong defines a myth as that which pertains to gods or heroes in pagan idol worship. Another connected reference is to a secret or mystery with the idea of silence imposed by initiation into religious rites.

Another Strong’s definition of teraphim means family idols; images believed to be healers; to mend by stitching; to cure or cause to heal. In Genesis 31:19, 30, Rachel stole her father’s household gods (images).

Enchantments are defined as: to whisper or mumble a spell, as a magician or charmer muffled; to cover, an incantation; concerning an amulet – earring; charmed; a private prayer in a bad sense; covered; secret; secrecy – incantation, which is the uttering or intoning of words or syllables to produce magical results.

All mean to enwrap; a blaze from enwrapping in magic; to lick; set on fire; blaze up; to loot – unlawful seizure or taking of goods by an enemy army. The primary root word means to join – to fascinate by means of spells and a charmer.

Enchanter – hiss; to whisper a magic spell; prognosticate; learn by experience. Deuteronomy 18:12 warns not to involve a son or daughter with an enchanter.

Enchanters - to practice magic; the root word means to cover or cloud over; act covertly; soothsayer; sorcerer. Enchant is defined by the dictionary as placing a spell, to bewitch. Paul wrote to the Galatians demanding to know who had bewitched them away from the truth (Galatians 3:1).

When considering the above definitions and Scripture, it seems that reading books or watching fairy tales on TV or movies could be dangerous. Children at a susceptible age may be opened up to spirits of fear (II Timothy 1:7); error (I John 4:6); perversity (Isaiah 19:14); lying and fantasy (I Kings 22:22, 23 and John 8:44).

Do this in remembrance of Me. (Luke 22:19) This was a command given by Jesus, concerning the Lord’s Supper. Look as we may, nowhere in Scripture does He tell us, “Remember My birthday.” Just as He died, “once for all,” He was only born once.

Christians should celebrate His birth, death and resurrection every day, for we need the physical and concrete. Jesus satisfied Thomas’ desire to see concrete evidence that He had risen, however, He stated, “Blessed are they that have not seen, believe in and obey and invisible Lord. We lean toward physical things, even when expressing worship, although Jesus warned: God is a Spirit, and they that worship Him, must worship Him in Spirit and in truth. (John 4:24)

What has happened? The attributes of God alone have been assigned to a fat, mythical gift-giver, who “sees you when you’re sleeping” (all seeing), and “knows when you’re awake,” and, “knows if you’ve been bad or good” (omniscience). He supposedly visits every child’s house on the same night (omnipresence). Can this glorify God?

The truth is important to God and many, ignorantly, cause children to believe a lie in the guise of a friendly, jolly, phony called Santa Claus. All lies come from the devil (John 8:44). Our Heavenly Father is the giver of all good and perfect gifts (James 1:17). Can you imagine the Apostle Paul teaching children about Santa? This is more than just innocent make-believe, for idolatry is involved. For whom do most children look on Christmas morning – Santa Claus or Jesus?

Perhaps we should also take a second look at the Christmas tree. What a fuss and expense to decorate and admire it. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. (Colossians 2:8)

Have we ever honestly considered how God sees all this, for He is the One we are supposed to be honoring? Christ is coming for a pure church, without spot or wrinkle and He is worthy to be worshipped in Spirit and in truth. To please Him in every way is far more important than observing a host of customs and rituals that originated in pagan mythology and superstition. We need to earnestly seek the truth.

DATE AND ORIGIN

The exact date of Christ’s birth cannot be determined, and, during the first two or three centuries, no notice was taken of the anniversary. Early church elders were very opposed to such celebration as pagan. December 25th was established as Christ’s birthday about the year 320 A.D. by Liberius, the Bishop of Rome. This was done to speed the merging of paganism with Christianity to attract more followers to the Roman church.

According to researchers, December 25th was the date chosen because it coincided with that of the Mithraic Feast of the sun-god and Roman Saturnalia. It was also the sacaea of the Mesopotanians; the festival of Kronos, in ancient Greece; the Feast of Lights of the Hebrews and Festival of the Sun among all primitive peoples.

The most significant was celebration of the Roman feast of the Saturnalia. It is the day of the birth of the sun god Sol; also Mithra, Osiris, Horus, Hercules, Bacchus, Adonis, Jupiter, Tammuz and other sun gods. They were supposedly born at what is referred to today as the Christmas season; then it was called the “winter solstice”.

The winter solstice was the occasion for a celebration held to welcome the return of the sun with its light and warmth after a long, cold winter. It was adorned with the pine tree of Adonis, the holly of Saturn and mistletoe. Tapers represented the kindling of the new born sun god’s fire.

The various sun gods in different countries were all believed to have been born at the same season indicating different forms (and names) of the same sun god. The son of the original sun god “Tammuz” in Babylon is the parent of all subsequent similar gods.

In Babylon the birth date of Tammuz was celebrated with great feasts, revelry and drunkenness. When transplanted to Rome it was known as “Saturnalia” (Saturn was another name for Nimrod, father of Tammuz). This was a most vile, immoral feast, a season of license, drunkenness and debauchery, with all law laid aside.

This same Roman feast passed into the Roman Catholic church and directly through it to today. Much associated with the Christmas season – holidays, gift giving, revelry and feasting, etc. is inherited from the Roman mid-winter pagan festival of the Saturnalia.

The Christmas festival of “Christmas” is interwoven with much ancient folklore and legends that have been handed down for generations. Adopted festivities include many customs from the pre-Christian world, not only from the Roman winter festival, but also from Northern merrymaking called “Yule” which honored the god Thor.

The cry “O Saturnalia” rang in the streets of Rome; tapers twinkled in Jerusalem; men talked of werewolves in Scandinavia; Valkyrie searched for souls to carry to Valhalla; and Druid priests, in flowing white robes climbed their sacred oaks to secure mistletoe, the “golden boughs” of Aeneas.

The name “Christmas” is a mixture of a Christian idea with a pagan ritual. The name of the holiday was “Yul” or “Yule,” when introduced into medieval England. Later it was changed to “Cristes Masse,” and the “Christ’s Mass,” and finally shortened to “Christmas.”

At first it was established as a religious holiday, but gradually took on an increasingly secular aspect, complete with pagan customs and ceremonies. Elaborate holiday gaieties reached their heights in the 16th and 17th centuries. Early American colonists did little about celebrating Christmas, for many considered it a “Popish Holiday.” In Massachusetts, anyone observing it was sentenced to “work or jail” and fined five shillings. Puritans had crossed the celebration off their calendars, altogether, however during the reign of Charles II, it was restored in all its pomp and glory. Thus, since the fourth century, A.D., this holiday and all its snowballing additions, has been observed by much of the professing Christian church.

After becoming involved in deliverance work, we began to realize how many things the demons promote and cause to happen. Actually if a person is not aware of the spiritual warfare with evil spirits, there are many baffling things that lack explanation.

For example, Scripture is quite explicit that children must be disciplined by parents (Proverbs 13:24). To a very small child, his parent represents God, and determines what is right or wrong. If the child learns to be undisciplined and rebellious, he grows up contemptuous and resistant to all authority and rules of any kind.

When the child comes into contact with the authority and regulations governing conduct in the schools, he is already conditioned to rebel against them. The same attitude will be evidenced toward the laws of the land and the officers designated to enforce them. He will react predictable, angrily rejecting the idea that he is not a world unto himself. This sullen resistance to and rejection of all authority over him permeates his relationship on the job and in every area of his life. Most importantly, this sets him up to resist violently the claims of Jesus Christ that demand unconditional surrender to receive salvation. By failing to train up a child to obey and yield to proper authority, not only does he grow up to a very unpleasant and difficult person, but he is preconditioned to defy God’s call to surrender and can even miss Heaven because of it. No wonder the Bible is so explicit and firm concerning child discipline and rearing!

In deliverance we became aware of the influence and driving force of demons in causing undesirable behavior patterns in children. I puzzled over the orders in Scripture to use the rod on an erring child. Why this, when so much of the problem was demonic? What good to punish a child physically for something that well might have spiritual roots?

The answer God gave to me was that the soulish, fleshly behavior must be conquered and brought into subjection. That which is demonically driven must be dealt with in such a way as to teach the child that he must not give in to the pressures of the enemy.

The child at an early age must learn the value of self-discipline and that he is not required to give in to every whim or desire coming through the flesh and the mind. Corrective discipline will cause the child to weigh the consequences of his responses to situations, people and problems.

The prayerful and judicious application of the rod can act as a deterrent to childish and foolish behavior (Proverbs 22:15). It teaches the child that there is a consequence to be reckoned with when unwise choices and actions are taken. This is preparing him for later life when his choices will determine what he reaps in both spiritual and the material realms in dealings with God.

An over indulgent, lazy parent or authority figure over a child who is reluctant to apply corrective measures fairly and consistently, produces an offspring who grows up trying to “beat the system”. It becomes obvious then that the parent has a grave responsibility to be consistent, fair, loving, and firm.

Whatever approach the parent uses in discipline will be associated in the mind of the child with his idea of God and how He deals with situations. We have had many cases where parents had prepared the way for deep-seated spirits of Fear, Rejection and Conditional Love to enter. If the parent is capricious and inconsistent in the application of discipline, then there is genuine confusion in the mind of the child what is right and wrong. In his immature mind he conceives of the right as what he can get away with and the wrong as that which brings punishment.

Conditional love is another giant problem rooted in the behavior of unwise authority figures. If parental love must be earned by being “good” the child is taught the concept of “earning” love. This will persist throughout and color his life unless relieved by deliverance. There is an evil spirited named Conditional Love that drives people to work and strive to “earn” the benefits of being loved. Since all human beings crave love and acceptance, this one causes untold suffering.

Not only does conditional love create disaster in relationships with other people, particularly in marriage, but even more important and more damaging, it causes the victim to think of God in the same terms. This in turn makes him unable to accept the marvelous grace of God who loves us because we need loving and not because we do or ever will merit such love. Jesus did not say “I love you IF”, He just said “I love you.” The misery of persons who are desperately clawing for acceptance and love from others and from God Himself is a sorry spectacle indeed. It is a tribute of sorts to the enemy’s success in stealing, killing and destroying.

Another aspect of unwise or negligent actions by parents is found in those who have had harsh, demanding and overstern parents. The drive to please those whom you love and respect is an innate one and the yearning to be accepted is a tremendously powerful one. If a person is rejected and condemned by those around him, it is almost impossible for him to accept himself as he is. Some children constantly fail to please their parents who regularly demand more of them than they can produce. The offspring become depressed, hopeless and tend to despair of ever achieving anything worthwhile.

Surrounded by criticism and angry rejection, self-esteem can be eroded to the point that there will either be consumption by hopelessness or explosion into violent rebellion. This is because of fury over continuous pressure and unfair demands. The concept of God is also colored by these things. Particularly involved is the relationship to the child’s earthly father or father figure and this will determine how he conceives God to be. If his father is warm, loving and helpful, a child will think of the Heavenly Father in these terms. However, if the parent is harsh, aloof, and unloving, this subconsciously will be transferred to the child’s idea of God in Heaven. No wonder the Scriptures say God will turn the hearts of the father (not the mothers) to the children (Malachi 4:6).

Discipline should always be administered in love. The person must be made to realize that, although his behavior is rejected and not acceptable, the child himself is loved and cherished in spite of (not because of) the misdeed. Here again, our Heavenly Father often must reject our deeds and chastise us, but He never rejectsus.

Filed Under PASTOR WORLEY’S WRITINGS (EXCERPTS), #10 CHILDREN AND DELIVERANCE

This account concerns our grandchildren, Sarah (27 months) and Elizabeth (8 months). Their family moved into a new apartment and almost immediately the older child, Sarah, became ill with sinus drainage that provoked severe ear infection, coughs, etc. The doctor put her on a strong oral antibiotic. She was never well for more than two weeks at a time from then on.

Neither child slept well, night or day. Sarah seemed more affected. She lost her former happy disposition and became rebellious, sometimes crying, and biting. We prayed for her but she only seemed to get worse.

One day, Elizabeth, the younger contracted stomach flu. At the same time Sarah tumbled down the stairs banging herself badly. That night she began vomiting.

The next day the parents brought both grandchildren to our home. Sarah was lethargic and could keep nothing on her stomach, not even water. Cool baths did help to reduce her temperature and the doctor said that she had a chronic ear and throat infection and swollen glands all over her body, even in her stomach. She was given a shot and sent home to rest.

She did not improve, did not even have energy to sit up. Her eyes rolled back in her head and she was limp like a corpse. Even the tiny amounts of liquid we managed to get down her came back up and her mouth dried up, cracked and bled a bit as she slowly dehydrated.

Realizing the child would die without help, we called a some friends to help pray. Six of us gathered around her and called upon the Lord. We rebuked the spirits of Infirmity, Upset Stomach, Fever, Respiratory Ailments, Swollen Glands, Infection, Witchcraft, Death, Starvation and Dehydration. Then we began to praise the Lord claiming her healing in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Shortly afterward, her eyes popped open and began to focus and sparkle as she sat up! Happily we made her comfortable on the bed and filed into the kitchen for a spaghetti supper. The little girl soon appeared and said she was hungry. We watched in amazement as she ate a large helping of spaghetti without any ill effects. She played for a while, went to bed and slept soundly through the night.

After breakfast the next morning my daughter and I took authority over the remaining spirits and commanded them to leave also. In short order they began to do this and she heaved several times. An awful odor came from her mouth. It was terrible and still coming out nearly two hours later! I had never smelled anything so vile. Following this she began to regain strength and energy rapidly and felt fine.

How did this happen to the child? Investigation revealed that the owners of the apartment house were involved in witchcraft and all sorts of occult experiments. There was a huge stuffed owl and a collection of books and encyclopedias on witchcraft and magic in their living room. I suspect that when the children bothered her, the woman cast spells on them.

Sarah’s father realized the danger in that apartment and decided the family must never go back there. He took authority over Satan and plead the Blood of Jesus each time he went into the building. The girls were moved out temporarily and stayed With us.

By Monday night, the move was complete and Sarah slept in her bed, which had been moved from the apartment. That night was the beginning of five days of unusual happenings. First, Sarah seemed to lose her confidence, saying she couldn’t do things. She started wetting her clothes and bed (she had been perfectly trained for months), and began to talk extremely loud. She then became hyperactive and began to lie. I woke up that same night with a splitting headache, which I never have. I was awake several hours and the Lord seemed to reveal some bondages of the little girl. I felt the enemy had taken over Sarah’s will and tormented her all night.

We called our friends back for another deliverance session. First, the men took authority and ordered Satan out of the entire house, out of all their belongings, and asked God’s blessing on the house. Then they came against Seduction, Lying, Deception, Infirmity, Fear, Dumbness, Torment, Interruption, Insecurity, Depression, Hyperactivity, Restlessness, Mind-binding, and Fear of Failure.

Tuesday night Sarah developed a bad cough. Her father anointed Sarah and prayed for healing. She coughed at night as though she couldn’t get a breath. Sunday she was still terribly congested and her breathing was hard and rasping. We ordered out Blood Destroying demons, False Deliverance, Spoiled, Rebellion, Death, and Infirmity. They really stirred and Sarah started to cry, got nervous, then her eyes rolled back, here eyelids closed and she slept. We bound all remaining spirits and asked her if she was hungry. Immediately, she was awake, alive, hungry, running, etc. After lunch, she took a three hour nap.

We then took Elizabeth and prayed with her. While we had been praying commanding spirits out of Sarah, Elizabeth had screamed. She became fidgety, cried, squirmed and repeatedly rubbed her eyes and nose. After about 20 minutes, we bound remaining spirits. She contentedly ate her lunch and took a nap. She had very sore, raw buttocks for some time. We had tried different foods and remedies but it refused to clear up. When Elizabeth awoke the next day, the soreness was almost completely gone and her running nose had ceased.

We are so thankful to have learned of deliverance through visiting Hegewisch Baptist Church and reading Battling the Hosts of Hell. I feel sure we will see even more changes in our lives in the future as God teaches us more.
