TESTIMONY OF AN EX-ROMAN CATHOLIC PRIEST

I pastor an independent charismatic church. Pastor Worley’s visit there in December, 1979 revolutionized the ministry here and after he left a heavy anointing for deliverance remained. For about two weeks, morning and night, we continued to cast out demons after our teaching sessions and there were wonderful fruits.

I myself received further deliverance from evil spirits in me because of the doctrines and practices of the Roman Catholic church which were contrary to the Word of God. The gift ministry I originally received with the baptism in the Holy Spirit in 1964 had gradually faded away; however with this deliverance, it was restored and flowed freely. The demonic spirits of Catholicism had hindered and choked off the flow of the Holy Spirit in me. We also ministered deliverance to another former priest and he was freed from the same things which had bound me. Many other former Catholics received freedom too. Although this may seem shocking and blasphemous to a Catholic person who does not know the Word of God, I assure you it is true.

I have written some tracts to show plainly that the Catholic church is only an imitation of the true Church in Scripture. If religious teachings are not in harmony with God’s Word they are lies, and if lies, they are of the devil. Anyone who believes and practices lies must have deliverance from these false teachings and erroneous practices.

For example: infant baptism is a false doorway to salvation; confirmation is counterfeit Pentecost; and there is nothing anywhere in the Bible comparable to the Roman Catholic doctrine of the priesthood. The whole concept of the priest (according to Rome) is distorted and utterly devoid of Biblical authority or precedent. Likewise the Papacy is nowhere found in Scripture and the whole doctrine is flatly contradicted by it. Prayer to saints (who are actually masquerading demons) and the exaltation of Mary are also forbidden by the Word of God.

The only Biblical references to the Catholic Church are found in Revelation 17 and 18. It is a part of the harlot religious system which has a form of religion but has become totally demonic. How I praise God for pouring out His Spirit on those in the Catholic Church today.

The entire Body of Christ needs purging from all which is not Biblical. My experience and advice to any caught in any system resisting or rejecting scriptural doctrine and authority is to leave it. Seek a spirit-filled Christian fellowship which stands on the Word of God, not the word of man.

Before the meetings with Pastor Worley, I had practiced deliverance, but only occasionally. He introduced and taught effective methods to force demons to manifest and leave. This does a very thorough work and draws everyone directly into participation. I am completely convinced of the crucial need of this drastic ministry.

I pray that all pastors will move into this neglected work for it is sorely needed in every church. Those who fail to do so will someday have to answer to the Lord for it. In my experience nothing else has brought me into such a vision of and contact with reality as this ministry of casting out evil spirits. It results in a deeper walk in the Spirit by rooting out and destroying the roots of problems which otherwise defy solution and healing.

Following is a partial list of demons we have identified and cast out which came from Roman Catholicism:

A CURSE AGAINST PROTESTANTS

One of the authorized curses published in the Romish Pontifical, to be used against Protestants, reads as follows:

“May God Almighty and all his saints curse them with the curse with which the devil and his angels are cursed. Let them be destroyed out of the land of the living. Let the vilest of deaths come upon them, and let them descend alive into the pit.

“Let their seed be destroyed from the earth by hunger, and thirst, and nakedness and all distress let them perish. May they have all misery and pestilence and torment. Let all they have be cursed. Always and everywhere let them be cursed. Speaking and silent let them be cursed. Within and without let them be cursed.

“From the crown of the head to the sole of the foot let them be cursed. Let their eyes become blind, let their ears become deaf, let their mouth become dumb, let their tongue cleave to their jaws, let not their hands handle, let not their feet walk. Let all the members of their body be cursed.

“Cursed let them be, standing or lying, from this time forth forever; and thus let their candle be extinguished in the presence of God, at the day of judgement. Let their burial be with dogs and asses. Let hungry wolves devour their corpses. Let the devil and his angels be their companions forever. Amen, Amen; so be it, so let it be.”

This then is the true spirit of Papacy. All who possess the spirit of the true Christ should readily recognize so base a counterfeit. 3

LIST OF ROMAN CATHOLIC HERESIES

List of Heresies, And human inventions adopted and perpetuated by the Roman Catholic Hierarchy in the course of 1600 years (Compiled by Rev. Stephen L. Testa)

In some cases these dates are approximate. Many heresies had been current in the church years before, but they were not binding on Catholics until they were officially adopted by a council and proclaimed by the pope as dogma of faith. During the Reformation (16th century) these heresies were branded and repudiated as having no part in Christianity as the New Testament teaches.

1. Of all the human inventions taught and practiced by the Roman Catholics, which are contrary to the Bible, the most ancient are the prayers for the dead and the sign of the cross. Both began 300 years after Christ. 310 A.D.

2. Wax candles introduced about tampering with the Law of God (Exodus 20:3-17) 321 A.D.

3. Veneration of angels and dead saints 375 A.D.

4. The mass was adopted as a daily celebration 394 A.D.

5. The worship of Mary, the mother of Jesus and applying the term “Mother of God,” to her, originated in the Council of Ephesus 431 A.D.

6. Priests began to dress differently from the laity 500 A.D.

7. The doctrine of purgatory was first established by Gregory the Great 593 A.D.

8. The Latin language imposed as the language of prayer and worship in services by Pope Gregory 600 A.D.

9. The Bible teaches that we pray to God alone. In the primitive church, prayers were never directed to Mary or to dead saints. (Matt 11:28; Luke 1:46; Acts 10:25,26; 14:14-18 600 A.D.

10. The Papacy is of pagan origin. Title of pope or universal bishop, was first given to the bishop of Rome by the wicked emperor Phocas. He did this to spite Bishop Ciriacus of Constantinople who had justly excommunicated him for having caused the assassination of his predecessor, Emperor Mauritius. Gregory I, then bishop of Rome, refused the title, but his successor, Boniface III, first assumed title “pope.” Jesus did not appoint Peter to the headship of the apostles and forbade any such notion. (Luke 22:24,26; Ephesians 1:22-23; Colossians 1:18; 1 Cor 3:11) Note: Nor is there any mention in Scripture, nor in history, that Peter was ever in Rome, much less that he was pope there for 25 years; Clement, 3rd bishop of Rome, remarks that there is no real 1st century evidence that Peter ever was in Rome. 610 A.D.

11. The kissing of the pope’s feet. It had been a pagan custom to kiss the feet of emperors. The Word of God forbids such practices (Acts 10:25,26; Rev 19:10; 22:9) 709 A.D.

12. The temporal power of the popes. Called by Pope Stephen II, Pepin, usurper of the throne of France, descended into Italy warring against the Italian Longobards. After defeating them he gave the city of Rome and surrounding territory to the pope. Jesus forbade such worldly kingships (Matt 4:8,9; 20:25,26; John 18:38) 750 A.D.

13. Worship of the cross, of images and relics. This was ordered by Dowager Empress Irene of Constantinople, who first caused to be plucked the eyes of her own son, Constantine VI and then called a church council at the request of Roman Pope Hadrian I. Such practices are severely condemned as idolatry. (Exodus 20:4; Deut 27:15; Psalm 115) 788 A.D.

14. Holy water, mixed with a pinch of salt and blessing by the priest was authorized. 850 A.D.

15. Veneration of St. Joseph. 890 A.D.

16. Baptism of bells instituted by Pope John XIV 965 A.D.

17. Canonization of dead saints, by Pope John XV. Every believer and follower of Christ is called a saint in the Bible (Romans 1:7; I Corinthians 1:2) 995 A.D.

18. Fasting on Fridays and during Lent was imposed by popes said to be interested in the fish commerce. This is against the plain teaching of the gospel (Matt 15:11; I Cor 10:25; I Timothy 4:1-8) 700 A.D.

19. The mass gradually developed into a sacrifice; attendance was made obligatory in the 11th century. The Bible says the sacrifice of Christ was offered once for all. It was never to be repeated, but commemorated in the Lord’s supper observance. (Hebrews 7:27; 9:26-28; 10:10-14)

20. Celibacy of the priesthood was decreed by Pope Hildebrand, Boniface VII. Jesus imposed no such rule, nor did any of the apostles. On the contrary, Peter was a married man, and Paul says that bishops were to have wives and children (I Tim 3:2-5;12; Matt 8:14-15). 1079 A.D.

21. The rosary, or prayer beads, was introduced by Peter, the Hermit. Copied from the Mohammadans and the Hindus. 1090 A.D.

22. The inquisition of heretics was instituted by the Council of VI. Jesus never used force. 1184 A.D.

23. The sale of indulgences, was a purchase of forgiveness and a permit to indulge in sin. Protest against this unscriptural practice triggered the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century. 1190 A.D.

24. Dogma of transubstantiation was decreed by Pope Innocent III. By this the priest pretends to perform a daily miracle by changing a wafer into the body of Christ. He then pretends to eat Him alive in the presence of his people during mass. The gospel condemns such absurdities; the Lord’s Supper is a simple memorial to remember the sacrifice of Christ. (Luke 22:19,20; John 6:35; I Corinthians 11:26). 1215 A.D.

25. Confession of sins to the priest at least once a year was instituted by Pope Innocent III in the Lateran Council. The gospel commands us to confess our sins to God (Psalm 1:10; Luke 7:48; 15:21; I John 1:8-9). 1215 A.D.

26. The adoration of the wafer (host) was decreed by Pope Honorius. This means that Catholics worship and idolize a god made by human hands (John 4:24). 1220 A.D.

27. Bible was forbidden to laymen by the Council of Valencia. Jesus commanded that scriptures should be read by all (John 5:39; II Timothy 3:15-17). 1229 A.D.

28. The scapular, introduced by Simon Stock, is a piece of brown cloth containing a picture of the virgin. It supposedly has supernatural power to protect anyone who wears it on the bare skin from all dangers. This is fetishism and common to heathenism. 1287 A.D.

29. The hierarchy forbade the cup to the laity by instituting the communion of one kind in the Council of Constance. 1414 A.D.

30. The doctrine of purgatory was proclaimed as a dogma of faith by Council of Florence. Not one word in the Bible teaches such a thing as purgatory. The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sins (I John 1:7-9; 2:1,2; 5:24; Romans 8:1). 1439 A.D.

31. The doctrine of 7 sacraments affirmed. Christ instituted only two ordinances, baptism and the Lord’s supper. (Matthew 28:19,20; 26:26-28). 1439 A.D.

32. Use of part of the Ave Maria, It was completed 50 years later and was finally approved by Pope Sixtus V, at the end of the 16th century. 1508 A.D.

33. The Council of Trent declared that tradition has equal authority with the Bible. Tradition is human teachings. The Pharisees believed this way and Jesus bitterly condemned then. By human tradition they nullified the commandments of God (Mark 7:7-13; Colossians 2:8; Revelation 22:18). 1545 A.D.

34. The Council of Trent added the apocryphal books to the Bible which were never recognized as canonical by the Jewish church (Revelation 22:8,9). 1546 A.D.

35. The creed of Pope Pius IV was imposed as the official creed instead of scriptures. 1650 A.D.

36. The Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary was proclaimed by Pope Pius IX. All men, except Christ are sinners. Mary also needed a Savior (Romans 3:23; 5:12; Psalms 51:5). 1854 A.D.

37. Pope Pius IX proclaimed the dogma of papal infallibility. This is a blasphemy and the sign of the apostasy and of the antichrist predicted by Paul.(2 Thess 2:2-12; Rev 17:9; 13:5-8,18) Many Bible students see the number of the beast (Rev 13:18), 666 in the Roman letters of the pope’s title. 1870 A.D.

38. Pope Pius X condemned all discoveries of modern science not approved by the church. Pius IX had done the same thing in Syllabus of 1864. 1907 A.D.

39. Pius XI condemned the public schools. 1950 A.D.

40. Pius XI reaffirmed the doctrine that Mary is the “Mother of God.” This lie was first invented by the Council of Ephesus in 431. This is a heresy, contrary to Mary’s own words (Luke 1:46-49; John 2:1-5). 1951 A.D.

41. The Assumption of the Virgin Mary was pro-claimed by Pope Pius XII, another Roman Catholic invention. They say it never changes; yet, it has continually invented new doctrines contrary to the Bible and has practiced rites and ceremonies taken bodily from paganism. Scholars report that 75% of the rites and ceremonies of the Catholics are of pagan origin.

Note: Cardinal Newman in “The Development of the Christian Religion,” admits that “…temples, incense, oil lamps, votive offerings, holy water, holidays and season of devotions, processions, blessings of fields, sacerdotal vestments, the tonsure (of priest, monks and nuns), images…are all of pagan origin…” 1960 A.D.

The above chronological list of human inventions disproves the claim of the Roman priests that their religion was taught by Christ, and that the popes have been faithful custodians of that religion. 2

FREED FROM ROMAN CATHOLICISM

Friday night I was delivered from many evil spirits which came from the Roman Catholic Church. Pastor Worley had mentioned in his sermon that prayer to the saints was anti-Scriptural. I was shocked when something inside of me boiled up with hatred for him and what he was saying. I myself was in agreement, having been saved and also studied my Bible.

During the invitation, I went to the pastor for prayer, explaining what had happened. He quietly rebuked the spirit of Prayer to the Saints in the name of Jesus and commanded him to manifest. Immediately the demon flared back at him, snapping angrily, “Shut up, you fool. Don’t you talk to me like that.”

This kicked off a struggle which I could hear but could do little about, except to pray in my mind to the Lord Jesus. The evil spirit cursed Pastor Worley and loudly berated him for “messing everything up,” Peevishly he shouted that until he came with his “stupid preaching of that Book” they had little trouble holding these people. “The Catholics belong to us, Satan gave them to us! You have no right to interfere!” he kept yelling angrily.

He glared at the former Catholics who were assisting in my deliverance, and shrieked accusingly, “You traitors, traitors! You were reared Catholic, how dare you break free, you belong to Satan; you have no right to do this.” Then he became incoherent in his fury and frustration.

Finally, he was so embattled he angrily stormed, “All right, all right, I’m going, I’m going, I can’t stand this anymore.” With an awful “AAAAAAhhhhhhh!” and a roaring scream he left. Other demons popped up, just as angry and resistant to the Word of God. The next ones were the names of the saints to whom I had prayed and to whom I had been dedicated. Each was a demon spirit who had to be thrown out in Jesus’ name.

I am so thankful to be delivered from this host of spirits who were designated as the Spirits of Babylon. A very powerful one was belief in the Pope as the head of the church. Others were called: Authority of the Priest; Confession; Holy Eucharist; Blessing of Throats with Candles; Holy Water; Novenas; Ashes (for Ash Wednesday); Friday devotions (I had been taught that making seven consecutive Fridays would save you); Lent, Knees (crawling from the back of the church to kiss a relic from Rome blessed by the Pope); Rosary, The Mass; Benediction Services; Prayers to Mary; Way of the Cross, Lighting Candles (vigil lights) and many others.

I do praise God for those who helped in my deliverance, which stretched into three and one-half hours. 9

FREED FROM RELIGIOUS SPIRITS

I had been a Roman Catholic for 30 years when my husband and I began to attend Catholic Charismatic meetings. It was here we both became born-again, spirit-filled believers.

As the spirit of god led us, we began to seek truth, for “God is a Spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and truth” (John 4:24). After much conviction, we finally decided to leave the Catholic Church.

After much searching, we were led to a Bible-preaching, spirit-filled church, which was newly immersed in a deliverance ministry. Pastor Worley had come and introduced the fact that a Christian can have a demon. He gave teachings, ministered to many, and even after he left, the Lord’s anointing remained. Soon everyone who attended our church, including our pastor, an ex-Roman Catholic priest, received much deliverance from evil spirits.

I remember the first time I received prayer for deliverance. Those demons were really disturbed because I was shivering uncontrollably from head to toe although I was warmly dressed. In the middle of my renunciation list of Catholic beliefs and practices, I broke into tears as a spirit of Sympathy for Catholicism emerged. I felt heavy guilt that I was a “traitor” to my “mother church.”

As great numbers of religious spirits were called forth they gave their names including a very vicious one called the “Mother of God.” In my mind I kept separating myself from those unwanted residents telling them to leave in Jesus’ Name, claiming the power of the blood of Jesus. With great convulsing sobs, thrashings and ear-piercing screams, one by one the demons left me.

Subsequently I have gone through other similar sessions, each time receiving deliverance from many different spirits. Thank God for the wonder of His mercy and that He not only cares for our eternal well-being, but wants us free from demonic bondages in this life as well. 11

HAUNTED BY DEMONIC SPIRITS

It was Sunday morning when I went forward for prayer. Soon after the pastor began to pray, a demon named Fear of Death manifested himself. After much crying, screaming and begging for mercy, in the name of Jesus he was cast out. One after another demon spirits manifested, some identifying themselves, others refusing to speak their names, hoping this would keep them from being evicted.

Sunday night, as I went up toward the front to pray, another demon manifested. I felt a if my legs and arms were being guided by some evil force and I seemed helpless to stop myself. The demon flew at my pastor with my body and began hitting him with clenched fists. Over and over he kept screaming, “I told you I’d be back.” A number of evil spirits named themselves, and were cast out.

There was specific bondage. Before accepting the Lord Jesus Christ into my heart as my personal Savior, I was a ‘good” Roman Catholic. I went to church, confession, made my confirmation and received communion regularly. Without my realizing it, Satan had me bound in a trap from which I could not escape.

While in high school, I lost interest in going to church, so for a couple of years I stopped attending. I flew to Arizona to school and in my loneliness I started to pray again. My childhood prayer came back and I began praying to the Virgin Mary. It got so bad that I would be forced to recite the rosary at least five times before I could fall asleep. Even then my sleep was fitful and troubled.

I would wake up in the middle of the night and sense something dark and dreadful in the room with me. This presence filled me with dread and fears. It was during this time that my mother wrote to say that she had been saved and that her arthritis had been miraculously healed in answer to prayer. Her letter sounded so strange. In my desperation, I knelt down and cried out, “Lord, I don’t know what my mother has, but whatever it is I want it too. I want you to come into my heart in a real way.” Immediately a wonderful peace came and an assurance that Jesus was real which I had never had before.

In spite of this, I would be so tormented at times that I called Mom to pray for me. Pressures would then ease, but at night the devil would again attack, forcing me to frantically blurt out Hail-Mary’s before I could sink into a restless sleep, filled with nightmares.

After I came home, I received the baptism in the Holy Spirit and we heard about the Hegewisch Baptist Church. When I went there, I was shown the dangerous bondage in which I had been living. I renounced all occult connections and contacts, forgave persons who had hurt or disappointed me and renounced everything Catholic I could think of. That night I had my first really restful sleep in months.

My deliverance involved several sessions. As Pastor Worley prayed, a very vile and violent spirit manifested. He yelled over and over, “She’s mine, she’s mine. She was given to me. You leave her alone!” Kicking and screaming, he shouted that Satan had bound me and would not let me go under any circumstances. A number of times he spit in the faces of the workers, but they only laughed and praised the Lord. This goaded him to an even greater fury and he rained blows and scratches on them anytime he could wrench an arm or leg loose. He also tried hard to bite those assisting at the deliverance.

After his name had been discerned, the spirits began to lift me from the floor and slam me down. They also tried to pound my heard against the floor. Except for the workers’ intervention I could have been hurt.

This behavior subsided finally. The pastor continued to press the demons determinedly. Reluctantly, sullenly the demons admitted they were defeated and had to leave and loudly cried their names as they left me. The first to leave (and one of the most vicious) was Mariolatry. (I had been dedicated to the Virgin Mary.) After him came other religious spirits including Holy Eucharist and Worshiping and Praying to Idols.

Two weeks later a demon of Confessional and Guilt of Lying in the Confessional Box were cast out. After I renounced the practice of praying to the saints, spirits bearing the names of the various “saints” to whom I had prayed were forced to come out in Jesus’ name. Next the spirit of Rosary was rebuked. In my ignorance, the devil had been tormenting me to recite the rosary every night–and I had done it! Rosary was very angry at being uncovered and shouted profanity and curses before he came out.

The following Wednesday I was sitting with my aunt in church, praying when demons manifested again. Without warning I abruptly turned to my aunt and began to strike her with my fists and scream curses at her. Workers carried me to the front and another deliverance began. Fear of Men and Hatred of Men manifested, but they insisted that they could not leave.

A more powerful demon was holding them in place. When forced to manifest, he arrogantly ordered the believers to cease praying immediately! Filled with hatred for male authority, his name was Women’s Lib. My head began to spin and I felt faint. My body was burning from head to toe, from the inside out and I cried out in pain. The workers rebuked the pain unsuccessfully and steadily it grew worse. The spirit cackled and called them names like male chauvinist and fascist pig, all the whole increasing the pressure on me until I thought I would die of the awful pain.

A word of wisdom came to the pastor who told me that he loved me and would stand in place of my own father and take the authority of the father over the demon. When he did this, immediately Women’s Lib retreated to the pit of my stomach and there was an immediate cession of pain. Recognizing his precarious position, the ruler then proceeded to send up smaller, protesting demons in an all out attempt to hold his own position and deflect the attacks from himself. Suicide was followed by Rejection, No Love, Fear of Being Loved, Lying, Stubbornness, Confusion, Filthiness, Murder, Heresy, Incest, Temper Tantrums and Leukemia. Last of all came Women’s Lib, struggling to remain and threatening everyone present with doom as he left with an awful scream.

On Friday night a curse of Immorality was broken and within the next hour all the spirits which had come in under the curse left. Following this deliverance, a huge weight lifted from me and as the joy of the Lord flooded me, I could not resist running and leaping and praising the Lord. I was actually set free! 8

I was born and raised a Roman Catholic, attending the Catholic grade and high schools. I grew up having doubts about the religious system I had been taught, in spite of repeated assurances that the Roman Catholic was the only true church. I now see that the main reason for my ignorance was that, in thirty-five years in the Catholic church, I had never studied my Bible which alone is able to make a man wise unto salvation (2 Timothy 3:15).

I was a faithful Catholic, but lacked power in my life to stop committing the sins which controlled my life. I went to confession repeatedly and was absolved only to go right back to the things I hated and feared. I knew this to be gross hypocrisy but did not know what else to do. I continued the endless cycle of repentance, confession and penance. Vainly I sought help from the saints, in the mass and other religious exercises, all without success.

I had no peace at all and lived in a constant state of torment, frustration and condemnation. Great fear gripped me and I shuddered at the thought of dying “at the wrong time.” I had no assurance of anything beyond the grave to give me comfort. The “Purgatory” I was told of did not seem very appealing when I remembered all my public and secret sins. I lived in horrible fear, and was constantly plagued by hopelessness and helplessness.

At the age of 18, I completely departed from my strict upbringing and eagerly embraced the unbridled pleasures of sex. Lust in every form became a way of life for me as I became completely obsessed with sex. My life revolved around sexual episodes and there was nothing perverted or kinky that I didn’t try or have tried on me.

I was driven and enslaved by burning passions that remained unslaked no matter where I turned or how deeply I plunged into the mire. In all this, I can truly say that I was never satiated nor did I find any happiness in the life I led. It was misery and agony all the way and the further I went the more I felt the emptiness of my heart. Thank God, the Lord Jesus saw my despair and had pity on me. When I did not know where to turn or what to do the blessed Holy Spirit led me to churches where the Word of God and the gospel of salvation by grace was preached. I was gloriously saved, Jesus came into my heart. Oh what a difference!

But Satan is the arch deceiver. As a babe in Christ, I sought everything that God had for me. While attending a certain Pentecostal Church I asked for the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Appearing to be “slain in the Spirit,” I fell to the floor as something like electrical charges ran through my body. My hands seemed to be twisted and nailed to the floor and numbness clamped my face and mouth, making it impossible to speak clearly. when I attempted to tell the people what was not convinced that this was the case at all and felt uneasy about the whole experience.

Praise the Lord! He saw my perplexed seeking of His will and led me to Hegewisch Baptist Church. They soon helped me by casting out a host of indwelling spirits of the occult, refused to pray for the Spirit’s fullness until I had been cleansed.

When the demons left, I received a real Holy Spirit baptism. This time there was no paralysis, no fears, just a relaxed atmosphere as people explained that the Holy Spirit would never force Himself upon me; that I would use my breath and tongue by my own volition as the Holy Spirit gave me the words. I was simply to speak in prayer and praise to God. It was a peaceful happy time for me as the prayer language flowed out. I knew that I had indeed received that which God has promised to His own. 10
